Three matted mixed media on board pitch paintings from the development of Irwin Allen's proposed series Circus, which was never produced. Each panel depicts a clown and balloons containing copy about how the series will reproduce the excitement of the circus. As a child, Irwin Allen was obsessed with the circus, and it was the subject of his first epic feature film, The Big Circus (Irwin Allen Productions, 1959). He tried to develop several subsequent circus films (including an early IMAX film) and television series.
